Pike Place Market: The Gum Wall
I’ve got a ton of photos from my time here in Seattle, as I’m getting to know the city, I’ve decided to visit the landmarks that make the Emerald City unique. This my friends is one of them, and puts under my 5th grade desk to shame. The Market Theatre Gum Wall or The Gum Wall as its affectionately known by locals is a Seattle landmark located below Pike Place Market. Started by the actors at the Market Theatre company in 1993, they’ve attempted to scrape the gum away twice before throwing their hands up. It became an official landmark in 1999. Parts of the the wall are inches deep with gum, the wall spans 15 feet high and 50 feet wide. What was my contribution you ask? Watermelon Bubbalicious of course.
More photos after the jump.
