I Do At Pike Place Market

Pike Place Market here in Seattle is one of my favorite places for street photography. It’s easy for me, as it’s only a couple blocks from my apartment and work.  Tourist trap yes, but when you figure out the flow of the market you know when the locals are there versus the Smith’s from Ohio who just got off the Duck Tour and are looking to see some flying fish. As you can see Pike Place is the go to backdrop for wedding photographers in the Emerald City. I crashed this party with my Leica M6. Oh and if I weren’t spoken for already I would so marry me some Kodak Tri-X. My adventures in film continue, stay tuned.

More photos after the jump.

First Frames: Leica M6

It’s been a long time. A real long time. I haven’t shot film since college, circa mid 90’s. After much thought and inspiration from friends who have made a commitment to include analog in their photography pursuits, I decided to go all in. Shout out to Aziz Yazdani and Yonas Hassen for pointing me in the right direction.

Scouring ebay, Amazon and Craigslist I began a search for a Leica M6. My research on street photography over the years simply lead me there. I considered many cameras before deciding to go with Leica. My reasoning was practical. I wanted something simple to use, didn’t require batteries to operate (the less electronics the better), and lastly if my adventure in film went south I could easily resell the Leica as they maintain value well.

One of my digital photography friends asked “why the hell are you shooting film, you can spend that money on some nice Canon L glass?” Working at a digital advertising agency, I get tired of looking at screens all day. That goes for work and my personal life for that matter. I spend more time than I’d like to admit staring at a monitor, television,  iPad and iPhone screen…camera LCD. I simply want to take  a step back and return to the root of it all.  It’s that simple.

Speaking of people and their devices, here are some first frames shot on Kodak Tri-X (pushed to 1600) from the Leica M6 paired with a Voigtlander 35mm F 2.5 lens.
